Inquest into the death of Elliott Johnson (dec’d)

The Senior Coroner of Bedfordshire, Tom Osborne, recorded that Elliott Johnson died on 15 September 2015 on a railway track at Sandy railway station and the medical cause of death was severe traumatic injuries to the head. He was satisfied that Elliott intended to take his own life and recorded a verdict of suicide.

Ray Johnson said

“We are thankful for the ongoing press interest in what caused Elliott to take his own life. We welcome the detailed consideration of Elliott’s letters. This was an opportunity to air and honour Elliott’s thoughts and words.

The evidence has shown the intense pressures Elliott was under in the last weeks of his life, in particular from Clarke, Walker and Conservative Way Forward.

We did not have big expectations for today: the inquest is the first step in our quest for accountability.”

Ray and Alison Johnson, the parents of Elliott Johnson, are represented by Jane Deighton and Joanna Fleck of Deighton Pierce Glynn and counsel Heather Williams QC and Sam Jacobs of Doughty Street Chambers.
